When did these arse burners fall out of favor?
I’m pretty sure Dad’s 76 LTD had these same buckles.

My 81 Trans Am has that design. My great grandmothers late 90s Lincoln Town Car had them too

Emma is an 81? I didn’t know that.
I think these buckles made it to the mid ‘00s.

Our 97 Grand Marquis had belts like this, probably after other cars had changed to something more modern. The 90 Isuzu pickup had the modern style.

My 01 Ranger has one up front in the middle seat, plus two attached to the rear doors for the jump seats. So basically all the unsafe seats.

Malibu and some other GMs still have the large metal male end with only a small plastic covering area, but it slots into a modern female buckle. They're huge, awkward, and uncomfortable. What's so odd is that they seem like such an old design when other GM vehicles - even cheaper and older ones - have modern slim buckles that still seem to do the job.
Yet the 1990 Volvo I sold has the modern design...

Yeah, but the only thing left on the car from 81 are the tail lights haha. Everything else is ‘78 spec.

My truck has em. I had to reteach my parents how to use them.

It was actually pretty funny when my mom (she has 2 masters degrees btw) kept pushing on the top to release it.
